As bp's CTO Dr. Franziska Bell leads software and platform engineering, data and analytics and design and change management, and chairs bp’s centre of excellence for accelerating digital technology and cultural transformation.
Fran received her PhD in theoretical chemistry at UC Berkeley, before working as a postdoc at Caltech in approximate quantum dynamics.

Before joining bp, Fran led both battery and fuel cell materials discovery and artificial intelligence research for Toyota Research Institute; and headed up the platform data science organization at Uber to transform every employee into a data scientist at the push-of-a-button.

Throughout her career, Fran has received several awards - most recently she made the 2023 Top 50 most influential UK tech leaders list.
